Many things have to be considered when fitting a breast prosthesis (breast form), such as the breast size, shape, contour, scarring, chest wall variances, type of surgery, edema, comfort and style. Many boutiques and lingerie stores sell mastectomy wear online with directions on how to fit. The fitters at BodyMed do not always agree with this type of fitting unless absolutely necessary. If a client is familiar with a particular prosthesis, or has had a previous fitting, or lives in a rural area we would certainly order/re-order a breast form for them but all manufacturers and sizing are not equal. We prefer a personal visit with us at the store to provide an accurate fitting and to show our clients a variety of options to help them through this difficult process.

Breast Prosthesis (Breast Forms)
After a mastectomy breast forms will help you to feel symmetrical again.
There a several different types of breast forms or breast prosthesis for after surgery. There are full breast forms that are worn after a mastectomy and there are partials or breast shapers that are worn after a lumpectomy or reconstruction.
The hand made silicone breast forms are very soft with a natural look and feel and fit securely. There are different sizes, weight options, colour options and profiles to suit almost any woman.
Silicone breast forms are the most natural looking breast prosthesis on the market today because they mimic a real breast in shape, size, colour and drape.
Partial breast forms or shapers are specifically designed for women who experience asymmetry naturally, after breast surgery or after mastectomy and reconstruction.
If there is uneven tissue in one breast or missing tissue in the chest landscape a partial breast form could be the answer to smooth and balance things out.
Wearing a breast form can boost a certain confidence in a woman after breast cancer surgery. It may help in the recovery process as well.
It certainly cannot replace her own breast however using a breast form/prosthesis may help her get back to looking and feeling herself again.
Other types of breast forms can be great for everyday wear, exercising, swimming, relaxing or for use just after surgery.
Some are filled with beads(been a boob) and some are very light and airy and are filled with fiberfill or foam. The fibrefill and foam forms are really not suitable for wear as they are so light the bra will not fit properly.
